KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Kulman Ghising, who oversaw the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Urban Development in the interim government, has announced that he is stepping into full-time politics.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation on Wednesday after submitting his resignation to Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Ghising said his next chapter would be political.
“I have completed 115 days since joining the Cabinet and handling three ministries. Today, I have resigned from the post of minister. Now my journey will be political. From tomorrow, my political life begins,” he said.

Recalling that he accepted the ministerial responsibility at the special request of the Prime Minister, Ghising urged that his resignation should not be interpreted as an attempt to evade responsibility.
Presenting himself as a responsible citizen, he said, “Standing with the country and the people matters not only while holding office, but also outside it. Self-respect stands above the chair.”
While acknowledging that there is a precedent in Nepal for ministers contesting elections while remaining in office, Ghising said he chose to step aside before moving forward politically.
Reflecting on his time in the ministry, Ghising said the experience gave him a close understanding of why work often fails to move on time, and claimed that he laid the groundwork for meaningful progress even within a short tenure.
Concluding his remarks, he said, “I have stepped out of office, but I will never step away from the people’s cause, the national interest, and the path of truth.”
He also clarified his party affiliation, saying that although there was an understanding with the Rastriya Swatantra Party, it has not yet been formally implemented and that he has not taken membership of any political party so far.
