KATHMANDU, Nov 1: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal on Thursday expressed his serious concern over the government’s recent decision to provide Rs 200,00 cash to around 3,000 disqualified combatants each.

Issuing a press statement, Khanal said the move was against international provisions against child solders and described it as an act against human rights, a form of policy level corruption and misuse of state coffers.[break]

“Our party strongly protests the UCPN-Maoist-led government’s corrupt and mean act to distribute around Rs 600 million among the disqualified fighters for its partisan interests,” reads the statement.

He further said his party is concerned about the reports that the government is planning to misappropriate the public funds in the name of providing relief to those deserting security agencies during the insurgency.

In the statement, Khanal has demanded that the government immediately withdraw the decision to give cash incentives to the disqualified combatants and halt the plan to issue fund to those deserting security agencies in the conflict period.
