Two wins in a row for APF, Janakpur and Dhangadhi

CHITWAN/POKHARA, June 11: Departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Region No 7 (Janakpur) and Region No 9 (Dhanagadhi) each recorded second wins in a row in the Prime Minister Cup Women's National Cricket Tournament being held jointly in Chitwan and Pokhara. Region No 3 (Kathmandu) recorded its first victory in the tournament on Thursday.

APF beat Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) by 13 runs and Kathmandu thrashed co-host Region No 8 (Pokhara) by nine wickets in Group A matches at the Rangashala Stadium in Pokhara. Meanwhile, Janakpur defeated Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) by 58 runs and Dhangadi recorded seven wickets win over Region No 6 (Baitadi) in Group B matchs at the Campachaur Ground in Chitwan.Batting first APF scored 87/6 in allotted 20 overs with player-of-the match Sarita Magar scoring 26 runs and Jyoti Pandey added 22 runs.

Nepalgunj's Pratikchya Gharti Magar bagged three wickets.

However, Nepalgunj got a revised target of 83 runs according to parabola method in 19 overs due to rain. Rubina Chhetri's three-wicket haul was instrumental in restricting Nepalgunj for 69/7.

APF had defeated Region No 1 (Biratnagar) by seven wickets in its opener, while Nepalgunj had thrashed Pokhara by nine wickets on Wednesday.

On Thursday's another match reduced to 10 overs due to rain, Kathmandu met 25 runs target in five overs losing only one wicket as Priya Chaudhary remained not out on six runs and Kamala Rai scored five runs.

Earlier, winning the toss, Pokhara posted 24 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Alisha Lamichhane was the highest scorer for Pokhara with four runs.

Player-of-the-match Shandhya Upreti claimed three wickets and Ashmina Karmacharya took two wickets for Kathmandu.

In Group B matches played in Chitwan, Janakpur, which had defeated Region No 2 (Birgunj) in its opener on Wednesday, gave a 118-run target to Bhairahawa.

Janakpur then restricted Bhairahawa on 59/7 in allotted 20 overs. Aashna Thapa scored highest 12 runs and Melina Thapa added 10 runs for Bhairahawa.

Shanti Chaudhary of Janakpur bagged two wickets, while Saraswati Chaudhary, Santoshi Chaudhary, Anuradha Chaudhary and Kabita Gautam picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, Janakpur, which was asked to bat first, closed its inning on 117/7 after Mamata Chaudhary contributed 34 runs off 32 runs and player-of-the-match Anuradha helped with 25 runs off 33 runs.

Alisha Chhetri claimed two wickets for Bhairahawa, which lost its second match in a row.

Similarly, Dhangadhi met its 74-run target against Baitadi in 11 overs losing three wickets as Kavita Joshi scored 25 runs and player-of-the-match Nirmala Shahi remained not out on 23 runs.

Samjhana Khadka and Srijana Rawal took one wicket each for Baitadi.

Earlier, being asked to bat first, Baitadi managed 73/8 as only Anjali Chand (19) scored in double digits.

Janaki Bhatta picked up highest two wickets for Dhanagadhi, which had recorded seven wickets win against Bhairahawa in its first match on Wednesday.
