The new system is the replacement of Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that was installed for the first time in 2000. The new system has been installed at a cost of around Rs. 90 million though a bidding process of the international-standard.

The Airways International, New Zealand has supported in installing the new system. Information about this was given at a press meet here today.

Earlier, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) had issued a circular to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to install the new system within November 15 this year.

The ICAO Flight Plan introduces the ability for a flight to convey precise and comprehensive descriptions of an aircraft´s communication, navigation and surveillance capabilities. Besides, this new system connects the network with ten internal airports.

Inaugurating the new system amidst a ceremony here today, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati said the government was taking all possible measures to make the air service safer and more reliable.

Similarly, Ministry´s Secretary Yagya Prasad Gautam, Director General of Department of Civil Aviation Triratna Manandhar, CAAN Deputy Director Hansaraj Pandey, engineer Sanjiv Singh Kathayat, TIA Civil Aviation Office General Manager Ratischandra Lal Suman were also present on the occasion.

Every year, around 4.3 million people use air services from TIA that has been handling 120,000 flights annually.
