KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Tensions in Sunsari have subsided after the local administration pledged to investigate the death of a resident who was shot by the Armed Police Force (APF).
The administration has signed a four-point agreement with the victim’s family, according to Basudev Ghimire.

The agreement was reached during discussions held at the District Administration Office in Inaruwa. Following the consensus, the situation in the district has returned to normal, Sunsari Police said.
The agreement covers the management of the deceased’s body and measures to fully defuse tensions in the area. The victim’s family has been promised an impartial investigation by the government, compensation, and a job for the wife and son of the deceased.
The incident occurred near the Nepal–India border, where APF personnel opened fire, killing 45-year-old Vijay Sah of Koshi Rural Municipality–1 at around 1:10 am on Wednesday. Protests erupted in the Laukahi market area in response, prompting police to fire tear gas to bring the situation under control.
While the APF claimed Sah was killed during a double encounter, locals accused the force of bargaining over a bribe and shooting him after the demanded money was not provided. An all-party meeting, including the victim’s family, decided to form a seven-member probe committee to ascertain the facts of the incident.
The investigation committee, led by the assistant chief district officer, includes representatives from the Nepal Police at the deputy superintendent level and the District Office of the National Investigation Department. The committee has been given seven days to submit its report.
