A team comprising of Senior Divisional Engineer of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC) Kosh Nath Adhikari gave red sticker to the five-star hotel after inspection on Tuesday.
The Everest Hotel is the *first five-star hotel in the country that has received red sticker from government officials. *Earlier, all other five-star hotels had received go-ahead to accommodate visitors as only minor cracks have been seen in their buildings.
"We had given green sticker to The Everest Hotel following preliminary assessment after the earthquake of April 25 as there were no major cracks then," Adhikari said, adding, "However, when we inspected the hotel building on Tuesday, we found three pillars of the building have suffered serious damage after the aftershock of May 12. That is why we have given red sticker to the hotel."
Similarly, one block of Dhulikhel Lodge Resort has received red sticker. Of the five blocks, Block No. 3 has received red sticker as has sustained serious damages, according to Adhikari.
Likewise, Hunter Lodge of Gokarna Forest Resort has also received red sticker.
The team has directed the management of the hotels, which has received red sticker, to shift guests to other hotels as early as possible.
"We need to conduct detailed study of the buildings that have received red sticker. Only then we will be able to say whether general maintenance or retrofitting will do or the building has to be demolished and rebuilt," added Adhikari.
Experts from DUDBC and other stakeholders have been assessing hotel buildings after the aftershock of May 12. According to Adhikari, it will take more than a month to complete assessment of the hotels as they need to re-asses the hotels that have already been inspected.
