Taiwan's SYM bikes to enter Nepali market

KATHMANDU, May 26: Nepali market will soon see two-wheelers from Taiwan. Shrestha Company is all set to introduce two-wheelers from SYM, a Taiwan based automobile company. The company is launching two-wheelers of three types: a sports bike, scooters of two different models and a cub scooter by first week of July.



Shrestha Company is launching Wolf SB250Ni, the sports bike, Jet 4 and Orbit, the scooters, and Magic, the cub scooter, in the Nepali market, all of which conform to Euro 3 standard.[break]



“SYM, with its tagline ´Engine of life´, is gaining popularity in Europe, America, Africa and Japan and we are hopeful that Nepali customers will love it as well,” said Suresh Bahadur Shrestha, assistant general manager at Shrestha Company.



The SYM Wolf SB250 Ni motorcycle is a 250 cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder liquid engine bike with a sporty look. The bike has a six-speed gear transmission system and can generate a maximum power of 18.4 KW.



Along with the sporty appeal, the bike has telescopic fork front and unit swing arm rear suspension. “We are mainly targeting the youngsters who are fond of sports bike,” said Shrestha. According to him, the bike will cost Rs 550,000 approximately.



According to the company, Jet 4 too has a sporty look with special body design and has 13 inch front wheel and 4-stroke, electroplated ceramic cylinder engine that increases engine life and riding stability. It has CVT transmission system, front disc brake of 226mm and has the capacity of storing up to 5.2 litres fuel.

Likewise, Orbit has a 12-inch tyre and light body, making it perfectly suitable for Nepali roads. It features 4-stroke, air-cooled engine, weighs 109 kg and can store up to 5.2 liters of fuel.



Both the scooters Jet 4 and Orbit have 125 cc engines and the company claims it to be the first scooter with tubeless tyres. According to Shrestha, JET 4 will cost around Rs 200,000 and Orbit will cost around Rs 175,000.



Magic, the cub scooter, on the other hand, comes with a 125 cc, 4-stroke engine with four-speed manual transmission system, 4 speed gear, bigger tyres suitable for long travel and can store up to 3.5 liters of fuel.



“We are planning to market the Magic outside the valley especially in Tarai,” informed Shrestha. The Magic will be available for Rs 145,000 approximately.



The company is planning to open an exclusive outlet in Teku, Kathmandu and appoint dealers in Bhairahawa, Biratnagar or Itahari, Butwal, Janakpur, Narayanghat, Nepalgunj and Pokhara, besides the valley.



“Our target is to sell around 700 units in the first year of its launch,” said Shrestha. He also informed that the company is also planning to introduce 125 cc and 150 cc bikes in the near future.
