Gyani Maharjan, proprietor of Kumari Nursery in Paknajol, says that if given proper care and nourishment, spring is the right time to grow flowers faster as compared to other seasons.
Adding instant colors can be the perfect way to give your garden a quick lift. She recommends that this is the right time to grow colorful flowers like petunia, pansy, barbina, marigold, dahlia and daisy outdoors. It’s also important to keep them moist and shelter them from harsh winds.[break]
“It’s advisable to put a lot of water at the time of plantation and use fertilizers every two weeks,” she adds.

The easiest way to start off, she explains, is by digging soil in the area where you want to plant flowers and leave it for at least two or three days. Too much moisture in the soil can also deteriorate the growth of flowers and it’s important to occasionally turn the soil where the flowers have been planted to improve the growth. It’s equally important to cut excessive weeds as this is an easy way to spruce up your garden.
The Week brings you a few handy tips you can try as spring comes knocking.
Examine your yard
It’s important to note where you stand before you start with your new plans. Remove the extra foliage that overhangs because it’s such small details that can make your garden appear unappealing. You should also remove dead and damaged branches, mow the lawn and occasionally trim the spring blooming shrubs to give a fresh look.
Keep it simple
Trying to grow too much all at the same time can turn out to be complicated than you imagine. You should first set a priority about how much you want to grow so that you can allocate your time to maintain it.
Prepare compost
You can make homemade compost by using the waste of plants in a productive way. You just have to collect the scraps of vegetables and dump it in a hole in the yard or just collect it in a bucket which you can later mix with the soil.
Fertilize
It’s important to use balanced fertilizer; otherwise it can mar the growth of plants and flowers. It’s advisable to use organic fertilizers as chemical fertilizers can speed the growth but can be harmful in the long run. As fertilizers breaks down and filters into the soil, it’s absorbed by growing roots to fuel growth of flowers and plants.
Time to repot
You must have placed many of the container-grown plants in the same pots for many years. It’s a healthy option for plants and flowers if you can replant it in slightly larger new pots with fresh mix of soil.
Combining plants
To give those colorful vibes, you can mix flowers of different species altogether or you can even use the same species of flowers but in different colors. The idea is to create a beautiful mosaic of colors in your garden.
