Triton defeated Bridgewater College by 4 wickets in the match played at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur to collect three points from two games.
Winning the toss, Bridgewater opted to bat first and scored 83 runs losing all wickets in 19.2 overs. Rajesh Pulami took three wickets in his 2.4 over spell conceding seven runs. Pulami was adjudged man-of-the-match. Jay Prakash Gupta was the highest scorer with 19 runs off 31 balls.[break]
Triton reached the target of 84 in 14.4 overs losing six wickets. Prasanna Shakya scored quick 24 runs off 13 balls with a four and two sixes. Prakash Bista took two wickets in 3 overs with two maidens giving away five runs.
In another match, TU defeated Kantipur by 91 runs in group A, keeping alive their hope of qualifying for the quarterfinals.
TU won the toss and scored 197 runs in the regular 20 overs losing only five wickets. Suman Uday was not out on 61 runs off 50 balls with five fours and a six. Ishan Baniya´s quick half century in 33 balls helped TU pile up the huge total. Baniya struck three sixes and four boundaries. Pramod Basnet also scored 33 runs off 16 balls with three sixes and two fours. T Rajan, Ram Naresh Yadhav, Anand Sagar Singh and Amit Alok took a wicket each for Kantipur.
In reply, Kantipur were only able to score 106 runs in 20 overs losing seven wickets. Prajesh Thapa´s not out 25 runs was not enough for victory. Sudip Sharma took two wickets in his 4 overs while Anil Adhikari, Pramod Basnet and Amit Shrestha took a wicket each.
With the win, TU have gained two points along with Classic while Kantipur got knocked out of the tournament as they lost both of their matches in group stage.
C-division qualifiers from Sunday
KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) published the draw of Martyrs Memorial C-division League qualifiers for the upcoming season here on Friday. The qualifying tournament will be held from March 13 to April 5. Altogether 46 clubs across the nation are set to take part in the tournament to be held at the ANFA Complex Satdobato, Lalitpur. The clubs are divided into three groups and winners of each group would be promoted to the C-division after playing knockout matches.
Prime, Bagmati in final
KATHMANDU: Prime set up a final clash against Bagmati College in the Benoz Memorial Basketball Tournament. Prime defeated Morgan 54-30 in the semifinal match played at the latter´s home court at Basundhara, Kathmandu. Siddhartha Maharjan scored 19 points for the winners. Prime have defeated KIST 58-30 in their quarterfinal clash on Friday morning and won the semifinal match in the evening. Meanwhile, Bagmati edged past British Gurkha 57-39 in the second semifinal as Anish Shah scored 17 points for the winners.
Jhapa XI defeat Saharsa
JHAPA: Jhapa XI on Friday defeated Saharsa, a cricket team from Bihar, by 89 runs in the Fourth Binesh Verma Memorial One Day Cricket Tournament being held at Bhadrapur, Jhapa. Losing the toss, Jhapa scored 230 runs in the 40 overs match losing eight wickets. Sunny Pun scored quick 64 runs off 57 balls with seven boundaries. Amit Shrestha scored 61 runs while Santosh Baral scored 52 runs. Saket Singh and Bidhan Goswami grabbed three wickets each for Saharsa. In reply, Saharsa were bowled out in141 runs off 33 overs. Rajan Raj was the highest scorer with 40 runs while Saurav Raj scored 16 runs. Manjit Shrestha, Amit Shrestha and Amit Dhakal took two wickets each for Jhapa. Amit Shrestha was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
Madhyapur Youth triumph
KATHMANDU: Madhyapur Youth Club of Bhaktapur edged out Sindhupalchowk 4-2 in a tie-breaker of the Fourth San Miguel Bhotekoshi Cup Football Tournament on Friday to reach the second round. The match extended to the penalty shoot-out as both the teams were unable to score in the added time. Sindhupalchowk´s Samir Shrestha was declared the man-of-the match. The knockout tournament organized by Sindhupalchowk Football Association features eight teams.
