Security of tourism areas stressed

KATHMANDU, May 16: Various speakers have underlined the need of maintaining security in tourism sites to make the Nepal Tourism Year-2020 a success.



At a program 'Nepal Tourism Year -2020 and Role of Stakeholders in tourism security': jointly organised by Department of Tourism and Tourist Police Unit at Bhrikutimandap on Wednesday, they said tourist arrival will go up when there is congenial security environment.

On the occasion, Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu Chief SSP Uttam Raj Subedi said the police force alone could not provide security to tourists as the tourism entrepreneurs will also have grave responsibility for this. "Nepal's capital city, Kathmandu, is the one having less criminal activities in comparison to the capitals of other countries in the globe. This message should be imparted to the globe", he stressed.


The Kathmandu Police will engage its efforts in collaboration with the community, SSP Subedi added. He went on saying that the police will discuss with tourism entreperenurs to end anomalies taking place in Thamel – one of the major tourism hub of Kathmandu. Director General of Tourism Department Danduraj Ghimire lauded the role of tourist police for the security of tourists and the tourist police should be made well-equipped in coming days.


Board member of Nepal Tourism Board Deepak Mahat suggested the formation of a high-powered committee on the participation of stakeholders.


Likewise, Chairperson of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal Nawaraj Dahal said there is high chance for disappearance of tourists when they go to different sites without consulting the licensed institution. Speaking on the occasion, various representatives recommended to increase authority to the tourist police for enhanced security in tourism sites.
