KATHMANDU, May 2: A scheduled cabinet meeting this morning was abruptly postponed at the last moment. The meeting was supposed to be held at Singha Durbar, along with the oath-taking ceremony of a newly appointed state minister.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had scheduled both the cabinet meeting and the swearing-in ceremony for Friday at 10 am. However, the PM’s Secretariat announced that both events have been postponed, without disclosing the reason behind the decision.
Eleventh-hour spending continues unabated
Kham Bahadur Garbuja, who was recently appointed as the minister of state for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, was expected to be sworn in today. He was appointed by President Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday based on the government's recommendation.
PM Oli had dismissed the former state minister, Purna Bahadur Tamang, on April 23. A member of the Prime Minister's Secretariat confirmed that the cabinet meeting will no longer be held today but did not clarify whether the state minister's oath would still take place.
