Briefing media about the decisions taken by the 65th executive committee meeting of SAARC CCI, Vaidya said that poverty is the root cause to different other problems in the region and it can be eradicated only if private sector in the region gets support from their governments."In fact, poverty is one of the causes of terrorism. If governments support us, we vow to bring prosperity in the region which will ultimately eradicate poverty from South Asia," Vaidya said, adding.
Moreover, Vaidya said that the newly elected committee of SAARC CCI would work closely with SAARC member states to create investment friendly climate in the region. He also said that the executive committee, during its two-year term, would also work to expand youth entrepreneurship in the region, promote gender equality and give due recognition to women entrepreneurs.
According to Vaidya, SAARC CCI will strongly raise the voice of private sector in the SAARC Summit to be held in Pakistan later this year. Increasing intra-regional trade as well as connectivity will also be in the priority of the new executive committee, said Vaidya.
At present, intra-regional trade among SAARC member states is less than five percent of their total trade.
Speaking at the program, Ajith Wattuhewa, senior vice president of SAARC CCI, said that Sri Lankan investors were eager to invest in Nepal. "We want to invest in tourism sector and make the best use of hydropower and other resources available here," Wattuhewa said.
Likewise, Om Bahadur Rajbhandari, vice president of SAARC CCI, said that they would promote Smart Green Community Village Project in SAARC member states to identify investment-friendly areas there.
