Quake grants in other eight more districts from next week

KATHMANDU, April 4: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has decided to begin the process of distributing grant assistance amounts of Rs 200,000 each to the quake victims in eight other quake-affected districts whose houses were destroyed by earthquakes last year from April 10.

The NRA had started the grant distribution to the quake victims in Singati area of Dolakha district from mid-March."From next week, we are beginning the grant distribution in villages of eight other quake-affected districts as part of our move to expand the grant distribution to other areas," said NRA spokesperson Ram Thapaliya.

On Monday, the authority made public the name list of the quake victims eligible for receiving the grant amount in villages of the eight quake-affected districts. According to NRA officials, the process of grant distribution will begin in Okhareni of Ramechhap, Ratmata Jhangajholi of Sindhuli, Marpak of Dhading, Kharanitar of Nuwakot, Briding of Rasuwa, Hansapur of Gorkha, Rumjatar of Okhaldhunga, Rabiopi of Kavrepalanchowk.

"As many as 5503 quake victims will sign a grant agreement to receive the first installment of the grant amount Rs 50,000 each. While making their names public, we have also asked the victims to make ready necessary documents like citizenship and land ownership documents by April 10," said Thapaliya, adding, the local authorities have been directed to immediately make an agreement with the Rastriya Banijya Bank and Nepal Investment Bank for grant distribution.

On March 11, the NRA had released Rs 265 million to the Ministry for Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD), which will distribute the grant assistance in three installments to the quake victim families.

Of the Rs 200,000 grant amount, Rs 50,000 will be provided to the victims in the first installment, Rs 80,000 in the second and Rs 70,000 in the last installment.

Apart from the grant assistance, NRA will also start providing subsidized loans to the victims in Dolakha district. The victims will be provided Rs 2,500,000 as subsidized loans to victims in urban areas and Rs 1,500,000 to those in the rural areas.
