Udas, who is currently enrolled at St. Xavier’s College as a social work student is also working as an RJ at Star FM since 2006 and as a VJ at Himalaya Television for two years.[break]
Republica caught up with her where she shares about her life as a student, a media person and her future plans.
Is it hard to balance education and work? How far does your work facilitate your studies?
Well, I’m already accustomed to this lifestyle, so it seems okay during the normal days, but it gets tough when I have exams at school.
Social work is my subject, and media is what I work for, so it doesn’t entirely help. But there are parts in social work like managerial skills and communication that we have to cover where my work aids.
How has the media journey been so far? Do you take anyone as an inspiring model for being drawn to this field?
It’s been amazing. Media is something that intrigued me from the time I was a child and I feel really great on getting the platform. I definitely have a muse and that would be Oprah Winfrey in the international arena and Sapana Pradhan Malla in Nepal. When I look at their spirits, I get energy from within to do something.
How do you carry your self esteem at the college? How different has it been from before?
I project myself differently, depending on the place. I act like a professional in my workplace and like a normal student at school, so people treat me like any other student in the class.
What are your future plans?
It’s just a thought till now, nothing planned out yet but I want to pursue another Bachelor’s degree in Law and do my Masters in Peace and Conflict Management from some good college in our country while giving continuity to my work in media. Ten years down the line, I see myself serving my country with whatever work I do.
