A meeting of the party office-bearers and members available in Kathmandu held at the party president Sushil Koirala´s residence on Saturday decided to proceed ahead for implementing the President´s call, concluding that the call made by the President was natural. [break]
The main opposition Nepali Congress will call the meeting of its Central Committee soon for that purpose.
"The President´s step is natural and positive; the Central Committee will hold a meeting soon for forging consensus among the political parties," party General Secretary Krishna Sitaula said after the meeting.
The President had on Friday called on the political parties for the formation of a consensus government and also fixed the deadline for the same. The opposition parties have termed the President´s call as obvious and positive move by the President whereas the ruling party, the UCPN (Maoist), has termed it unconstitutional.
Political parties are holding meeting today to review the political situation arising after the President´s call. The Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) have begun a meeting in Dhulikhel to review the political situation and chalk out the future strategy.
The Nepali Congress has also decided to hold talks with the rest of the political parties for constituting a government of national consensus within the given deadline. Party spokesman Dilendra Badu said that the Nepali Congress would naturally stake its claim for leadership of the new consensus government.
"The government should be formed in the given deadline and the Nepali Congress´ claim for the leadership of that government is natural," Badu said.
Party vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel also said that the meeting discussed the topic of formation of the national consensus government as per the President´s call.
