During a program organized at the prime minister's residence in Baluwatar to bid farewell to the team, PM Oli said that the team should be confident along with having capability to shine in any tournament.
“The team should go into the competition with winning mentality,” he said during the program.
PM Oli also added that Nepal has achieved success in international arena despite the country entering into the arena few years ago.
Meanwhile, he said that the problems seen in the cricket governing body have been fixed with the introduction of the new cricket board.
“I was fearing that the unfair competition seen in the cricket governing body will push cricket backward. However, the fear was sorted out with the introduction of the new ad hoc committee at Cricket Association of Nepal,” said the PM, who added that all should go with the spirit of unity.
Ramesh Silwal is the president of the newly-formed ad hoc committee of the CAN that has been handling all the responsibilities.
Prime Minister Oli also vowed that the government is ready to support the cricket governing body if it comes with proposals for the development of the game.
Meanwhile, head coach Jagat Tamata said that the team is all prepared to face the opponents in the tournament, whereas assistant coach Binod Das said that he will help the team with his own personal experiences of playing U-19 World Cup.
Likewise, skipper Raju Rijal said that all team members will try their best to produce positive results in the world cup.
Minister for Youth and Sports Satya Narayan Mandal, National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, CAN President Silwal among others were present during the farewell program.
Nepal, which is in Group D along with New Zealand, India and Ireland, will face New Zealand in its opener on January 28, plays against Ireland on Jan 30 and plays against India on February 1 in the group stage.
Nepal is also scheduled to play warm-up matches against Pakistan on January 23 and Sri Lanka on January 25.
