He gave this instruction stating that the road expansion works had not moved ahead as expected and that there were extensive grievances over the same at the people´s level.[break]
The prime minister gave this directive to the team that carried out on-site monitoring of the road expansion works underway in the Kathmandu Valley, according to Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Krishna Hari Banskota.
Prime Minister Bhattarai gave directives to reward the people fulfilling the works assigned to them while taking action, as per the law, against those not fulfilling their duty; and also to do so without any hesitation. The bodies concerned would be mobilized for carrying out the works from tomorrow itself, Banskota said.
Stating that the road expansion drive would become effective if the construction works could go ahead with the same speed the demolition of structures for the road expansion was carried out, Prime Minister Bhattarai said that everything would be done so that there is no shortage of anything for making the campaign successful.
He also stressed that the government was laying emphasis on conducting the campaign with minimum damage.
A team headed by Secretary at Prime Minister´s Office Baskota had monitored the road under expansion in Kathmandu Valley this morning.
The monitoring team comprises secretaries at Ministry of Energy, Information and Communication, Local Development, Urban Development, Physical Planning and Works along with concerned officials.
Immediately after the monitoring, the team called on Prime Minister and apprised him of the current status of road expansion drive.
To manage the road network in the capital, the government has prepared a first phase plan to widen 180-km road in the Valley.
Under the road expansion drive, the task of widening 70-km road has been accomplished but removing the structure demolished for road expansion and blacktopping of the road are yet to be initiated.
The situation is it that the Road Division Office and Road Expansion Project based in the Valley and municipalities in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur have to construct the road within their geographical boundary.
The government has put top priority to a bid of road expansion in the Valley for the past one year.
