PM directs for controlled outflow of Kaligandaki river

KATHMANDU, May 24: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Sunday Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam and officials at the Ministry of Defense to resume the flow of Kaligandaki river blocked by massive landslide in Myagdi district in a controlled way.



The PM directed to that end after lawmaker Resham Bahadur Baniya brifed the PM that Beni Bazaar, the district headquarters and other downstream places are at high risk of possible flooding.

He urged the Home Ministry to inform the locals about the incident through local radios and other medium and operate transportation service with caution.


PM Koirala also asked Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Rana to resume the flow of river in a way it doesn't incurs addition loss of human and physical infrastructures.


He further directed all security bodies to start search, rescue and relief if the landslide had impacted human settlements.
