Pathibhara Cable Car Dispute: Why Are Locals Demanding a Halt to the Project?

The dispute over the construction of a cable car in Taplejung’s Pathibhara area has intensified, with locals rallying against the project, citing environmental and cultural concerns. Protests have escalated into shutdowns and strikes, demanding the halt of the cable car construction due to fears of disruption to the sacred Mukkumulung site and the surrounding nature. While supporters argue the project will boost local development and improve access for pilgrims, protesters remain firm in their opposition, accusing the government and developers of ignoring local voices and concerns. The conflict continues, with authorities urging dialogue to resolve the issue.
