Police use water cannon, tear gas cells to disperse pro-monarchy demonstrators

Authorities first used water cannons, and then fired five rounds of tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

KATHMANDU, March 28: Police have used water cannons and fired tear gas at pro-monarchy demonstrators in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on Friday.


The monarchist group attempted to break through a restricted area and move toward Baneshwor, prompting the police to intervene. Authorities first used water cannons, and then fired five rounds of tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

1743146103_tinkuna protest-1200x560.jpegAfter the water cannon was used, the protesters retreated back toward Tinkune. Earlier, a scuffle had broken out when the group tried to head toward Baneshwor, but the police used force to push them back.
