New hopes for Pathibhara cable car construction dispute

The government has formed a negotiation team, led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai, to engage with concerned parties and resolve the dispute over the cable car construction in the Pathibhara (Mukkumlung) of Taplejung.

KATHMANDU, Feb 3: The government has formed a negotiation team, led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai, to engage with concerned parties and resolve the dispute over the cable car construction in the Pathibhara (Mukkumlung) of Taplejung. 


On Sunday, the Home Ministry announced the team's formation, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and the Ministry of Urban Development. Joint Secretary Bhattarai and his team seek to address the issue through dialogue and discussions.

The negotiation team began its work on Sunday. The Home Ministry has urged agitating parties to call off their protest programs and resolve the matter through dialogue.


Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak took the necessary initiatives by maintaining regular dialogue with members of the House of Representatives of Taplejung and neighboring districts to address the issue, according to Home Ministry Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Ram Chandra Tiwari. 


The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration oversees matters related to ropeways and cable car policies, laws, and standards under the Government of Nepal's Work Division, 2017. Addressing local concerns about cable car construction, the ministry has coordinated and facilitated discussions with the concerned stakeholders.


The ministry requested the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to take the initiative to resolve the issue. The statement also noted that, since multiple stakeholders are involved and peace and security management is necessary, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration dispatched a letter suggesting that the Home Ministry should coordinate and facilitate the process with the relevant bodies.
