KATHMANDU, Dec 22: The National Sports Council (NSC), which is all set to introduce a new cricket board to replace the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), has directed CAN's Chief Executive Officer Bhawana Ghimire to handle all responsibilities of the cricket governing body.

Claiming that the four-year term of CAN under the leadership of Tanka Angbuhang has ended and the newly-elected committee under chairmanship of Chatur Bahadur Chand was unauthorized and has no recognition from the NSC, the sports governing body of Nepal sent an official letter to Ghimire on Sunday directing her to handle the responsibilities until another structure is set up.Similarly, CAN's former president Aungbuhang also did not authorized the newly-elected committee, despite himself taking the decision to hold the general assembly of the CAN in Kathmandu on December 14 and 15.

NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista confirmed that the supreme sports body of the country has taken the decision of giving authority of CAN to Ghimire.

"We have directed Ghimire to handle all the responsibilities of CAN. However, she has to consult the NSC to take any major decisions," Bista told Republica over telephone on Monday.

Bista also informed that Ghimire is the one who will decide about the team officials of Nepali U-19 National Cricket Team which is set to visit India to prepare for the ICC U-19 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh next year.

However, the cricket governing body's newly-elected President Chand said that NSC Members Secretary Bista is just creating scene and added that Ghimire has been following the directives of CAN as she has been appointed by the association.

"CAN had appointed Ghimire as the CEO and she has been doing her duty following the direction of CAN officials," said Chand, adding, "The NSC has to follow the guidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC), CAN and the NSC's as well."

Chand further added that CAN executive committee will take decisions over the U-19 team officials visiting India and Bangladesh for the World Cup.

"We are the authorized body of CAN to decide about the officials for the India and Bangladesh tours of the U-19 cricket team," said Chand.

Ghimire, who accepted that she received official letter from the NSC, informed Republica that she will follow the direction of the NSC, the supreme sports body of the country.

"Of course, I will follow the directions of the NSC because it is the supreme sports body of the country," said Ghimire.

Meanwhile, NSC Member Secretary Bista said that the ICC will recognize decisions taken by Ghimire.

The cricket governing body has been witnessing the latest development following the general assembly that elected Chand as the president despite NSC's formal objection as well as the desire of NSC Member Secretary Bista to introduce Cricket Board replacing the current Cricket Association of Nepal.

Bista, who is set to introduce the board within two days, has been saying that he will not recognize the executive body under Chand, claiming that the CAN elections were held without fulfilling all the due procedures.

Majority of CAN members were in favor of the general assembly with the aim of tackling the move taken by the NSC to dissolve CAN.
