Nepali boxers defeated

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: All three Nepali pugilists were defeated in the Second Benazir Bhutto Memorial International Boxing Tournament that kicked off on Saturday in Pakistan.



According to Rajiv Shrestha, the general secretary of Nepal Boxing Association, Sudesh Manandhar in 52 kg, Pruna Bahadur Lama in 60 kg and Sudan Gurung in 69 kg were defeated in the very first bout. [break]



Manandhar was defeated by a Sri Lanka boxer 15-12 in the pre-quarterfinal round while Lama was defeated by Cameroonian player 17-8. The bout between Gurung and Kenyan player was stopped by referee in the second round after Gurung got injured in the same round.



Other three Nepali boxers Yukesh Nagarkoti (56 kg), Ratna Tamang (64 kg) and Uddabh Thapa (75 kg) will compete on Sunday. Guangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist Deepak Maharjan (81 kg) is scheduled to fight on Monday. Altogether 134 player from 19 countries are competing in the event.



Nepali team was undergoing training in Pakistan since last one month. Pakistan Boxing Association had made training arrangements for Nepali pugilist.
