KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the deployment of 213,500 civil servants for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5.

According to EC Assistant Spokesperson Prakash Neupane, the deployment will include civil servants, employees from various organisations, and volunteers, but will exclude security personnel. “Polling centres with up to 500 voters will have eight staff members, while centres with 500 to 1,000 voters will have nine each,” Neupane said.

The EC has also authorised polling officers in the field to recruit volunteers immediately if required. These volunteers will receive allowances and facilities equivalent to those provided to civil servants engaged in election duties.

Officials and members of employee unions affiliated with political parties will not be deployed. The Commission has also established a reserve pool of personnel to ensure rapid deployment if necessary. All election staff will undergo mandatory training before being assigned to polling stations.

The final voter count for the election stands at 18,903,689, according to the voter list published by the EC on Saturday. The list includes 9,663,358 men, 9,240,131 women, and 200 voters in the ‘others’ category.

During the 2022 HoR and Provincial Assembly elections, the total number of voters was 17,988,570. Compared to then, the voter population has increased by 915,119 in 2026, with male voters rising by 522,552, female voters by 392,552, and ‘others’ by 15.

For the upcoming election, the EC has designated 10,967 polling locations and 23,112 polling centres nationwide—an increase of 75 locations and 885 centres compared to 2022.

Meanwhile, 114 political parties have registered with the EC for the HoR election, all of which have been approved to participate.
