KATHMANDU, Sept 16: Culture, music, tourism promotion and basically to bring people together; the Nepal Music Festival is all set to kick start on September 21 and end the next day on September 22, 2012 at at the Jawalakhel Football Ground in Lalitpur.

During the two days, the audience will get to see three international bands and 10 local bands and singers on stage.[break]

“Nepal Music Festival is registered as an Non-Government organization (NGO) and this event is going to be not-for-profit,” informed Ranjan Ojha, Founder and Project Director of the festival, adding, “this is a celebration of hope, transformation and peace.”

The fund collected from the concert will be deposited in the account of Nepal Music Festival’s account, which will be used, in due time, to fund schools and educational projects, according to Ojha.

Co-Director of the festival Mahesh Kansakar, who resides in Denmark and is here for the festival, said, “The idea started very small and all of us met one day and decided that we should do it. We have to give back to the country and this is our way of giving back. There is so much to be done here and music always gets people together, hence we’re doing this.”

The first day of the festival will see youths participating in International Conference on Social Business and on the second day, the singers and bands will take the center stage. “The thought is that we can do out small bit and still bring about change. We also want more young ones to be entrepreneurs,” said Ojha.

1001 Ways from Switzerland, Parinday from India and Soulset from Denmark along with their Nepali counter parts, 1974 AD, Astha Tamang-Maskey, Cobweb, Mukti n Revival, Resa Fusion, Robin and the New Revolution, Sukarma and Tumbleweed are set to rock the stage.

A warm-up gig was organized earlier on May 14 with musician, producer and composer Tobiar Huber, who has toured more than 30 countries promoting peace through his concert titled the “Gandhi Tour”, which started in 2006. He played with the Nepal folk bands at The Everest Hotel.
