Musician Khadgi succumbs to cancer

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Musician Ratna Bahadur Khadgi, best known for his music composition for evergreen numbers like ‘Eklai Basda Sadhai Malai Samjhana Timro Aidinchha’, ‘Kholako Dui Kinar Vo Timro Ra Mero Pirati’, ‘Karmako Rekha Nametido Raicha’, succumbed to cancer on Thursday morning. He was 79 years old.

According to family sources, Khadgi had been suffering from lung cancer for a long time, and passed away while undergoing treatment at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. The last rite of the musician was performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Thursday itself.

His deceased body was kept in the premises of Nepal Academy in Kamaladi for well-wishers to pay their last tribute. Beside people from the fraternity, Minister for Culture and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel also paid his last tribute to Khadgi. He praised for his contributions to Nepali music.

Khadgi has composed music for about 700 old and new songs, and is survived by a son and two daughters.
