KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said on Sunday that the peace process had come to a halt due to the Maoists´ unwillingness to implement the seven-point deal.

Addressing the NC´s parliamentary party meeting, Paudel accused the Maoists of being bent on drafting the new constitution under the shadow of guns.[break]

He also clarified that NC had never changed its stance on the peace process and system of governance as claimed by the Maoists.

NC PP Spokesperson Nabindra Raj Joshi said Paudel also briefed the meeting as to why they are in favor of the parliamentary system.

“Nepali Congress wants the peace process to be expedited without any excuse,” he added.

The meeting was cut short as Paudel had to attend another meeting with 16 small parties at Singha Durbar to forge a common stance on the peace process.
