The members of the high-level probe commission formed by the party to probe into irregularities said they could not complete the task as they were busy with other activities of the party. Unlike the past, however, the commission has not announced the next date for publicizing its report. [break]
Not only the leaders at the lower rungs but Amik Sherchan, who heads the commission, himself is unaware when the report would be made public.
“We are probing the complaints. We will fix the next date after a meeting of the commission,” said Sherchan.
Earlier, the commission had decided to publicize the report on Friday, saying it was still working on technical aspects. The commission on July 26 had invited complaints against corrupt leaders and had received 65 complaints against several top leaders, including party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The commission members have said that it would take some more time to publicize the report. The commission had been given only a month to prepare the report.
The lower level leaders however have accused the commission members of deliberately delaying the report. They also claim that the commission would eventually give a clean cheat to the corrupt party leaders.
“The party leadership is waiting for an opportune time to make the report public. The report would be made public at a time when there would be other major issues to overshadow the report. The commission was never formed with a good intention,” said a central level Maoist leader.
According to party insiders, the corrupt leaders would not face any action as they command tremendous authority in the party. They claimed that the commission was formed to make lower level leaders a scapegoat rather than bringing the top leaders to book.
Sherchan, however, refuted the allegations and said that the commission would take action against all corrupt party leaders. “If we fail to punish the corrupt leaders, the party would lose its identity,” said Khagaraj Bhatta, a Maoist leader.
