KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The Legislation Management Committee under the National Assembly has passed the Film Bill.
The committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday discussed and endorsed the draft report of the Film Bill, 2081. According to the agenda, the committee’s report on the bill will be presented at the National Assembly meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha expressed confidence that the new law would play a significant role in developing the film sector as an industry through social, cultural and entertainment avenues, as well as in the growth, expansion, promotion and regulation of domestic films.
He said the bill incorporates several provisions to make the film sector more contemporary.
The government had drafted the bill to amend the Film Act enacted in 2026 BS, aligning it with the federal structure and new technologies. The bill also emphasizes developing the Film Development Board as an autonomous and empowered institution, along with provisions related to regulation and accountability.
