Mahanagar Yatayat bus attacked with stones

KATHMANDU, March 14: An unidentified person pelted stones at a newly-launched metro bus smashing two windows at Balkhu in Kathmandu on Monday.

The Metro Transport (Mahanagar Yatayat) Private limited started operating a fleet of 39 buses equipped with television, internet, CCTV camera and comfortable seats from Sunday. According to the company, the bus (Ba 4 Kha 106) which was carrying passengers this afternoon, saw two windowpanes smashed in the incident. No one was injured.

According to the bus operators, some other bus operators including microbus operators had earlier warned against launching the buses and claimed that they were involved in the attack.

"They have tried to discourage us by throwing stones," said Santosh Khatiwada, vice-president of the company. "We will file complaint with police on Tuesday."

The Metro Transport Private Limited has launched the bus service in the Ring Road.
