KATHMANDU, Jan 31: A state-of-the-art cancer hospital is under construction in Bhairahawa, set to be operational within a year and a half. With an investment of over Rs 1.5 billion from both domestic and international private investors, the hospital will have a 100-bed capacity.
The project, a subsidiary of Siddharthnagar City Hospital founded by Arjun Paudel, has completed its building construction following environmental impact assessments and mapping.
Purbanchal Cancer Hospital comes into operation in Birtamod
The hospital, named Sumitra Memorial Cancer Hospital in memory of Arjun Paudel's late mother, Sumitra Upadhyay, who passed away from cancer, will feature advanced treatment technology such as a linear accelerator. Paudel, along with investors including Sagar Pokharel, Hari Khatri, Gokarn Khadka, Krishna Khadka, and Keshavraj Gyawali, aims to provide specialized cancer services in the region.
The facility, located on a 2.5-bigha plot, is expected to open by mid-April 2026. The hospital aims to reduce the need for patients from western Nepal to travel to Kathmandu, Chitwan, or India for cancer treatment.
