KATHMANDU, March 11: The Government of Nepal has reiterated its stance on protecting the rights of women and girls with disabilities as well as those from the marginalized communities.
Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens (MoWCSC) Shradha Shrestha made such remarks during a discussion on women and girls’ access to justice and sexual and reproductive health in Nepal held on the sidelines of the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York City on March 10.

Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Shrestha further said that although Nepal has introduced several legal provisions to protect the rights of women and girls, greater efforts are still needed to ensure their effective implementation.
At the panel discussion chaired by Krishna Waiba, Advocate Sabin Shrestha of the Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) said the organization has been running legal aid programs to improve access to justice for women and girls with disabilities and to promote reproductive health rights.
He also emphasized the need for disability-friendly and accessible judicial guidelines to ensure equal access to justice.
Machhe Gurung moderated the program. On the occasion, Advocate Ritu Thapa spoke on access to justice for indigenous women, while Pabitra Sunar presented a “Call for Action.”
The event was attended by Secretary of the MoWCSC Radhika Aryal, Joint Secretary Abha Shrestha, and Under Secretary Sunita Lakandri from the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York, among others.
