KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is doing homework for amending the constitution.
Addressing a meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, PM Oli urged all the parties to begin their homework for the amendment.
Stating that a decade has passed since the constitution was drafted, PM Oli urged the parliament to be ready to improve its shortcomings.

“We have always said that the constitution is a tool for the development of the country and the people, not an end in itself, and that the constitution is not an unamendable issue,” Oli said, “It has been 10 years since we made this constitution, and now it is time to review it.”
He also recalled that some people dared to accuse him of regression when he raised the issue of constitutional amendment. “When we said this, some even accused us of regression,” Oli said, “Today, seeing the same forces asking about the constitutional amendment, I am happy to see that they have realized this.”
He said that the current government has prioritized the formulation of laws after reviewing the complications that emerged during the implementation of the constitution.
Stating that the Nepali Congress and the UML have formed a task force comprising experts, PM Oli said that the problems in implementation of the constitution will be identified through extensive discussions.
He said that the amendment process will move forward through discussions with both the parties within the government and those outside the government. “We are clear that a common stance will be formed on matters that are agreed upon, and debate and discussions will be held on matters of disagreement,” Oli said, adding, “It is the government's responsibility to bring the constitutional amendment bill. A common opinion will be formed through debate and discussions, and based on that, the amendment proposal will be made.”
