KATHMANDU, Jan 31: The driver of a Tata Sumo that met with an accident in Okhaldhunga has been found in Bhaktapur.
The Tata Sumo (Na 1 Ja 6421) was found on the bank of a river in Manebhanjyang Rural Municipality-7 in Okhaldhunga on Thursday morning. The vehicle carrying four individuals, including the driver, veered off the road and fell down approximately 100 meters.
Maya Devi Gurung, 56, her son Pujan Gurung and her sister Tara Gurung, 45 died on the spot. People walking on the road in the morning had reported the accident to the police.
Three killed in Tata Sumo accident in Okhaldhunga
According to the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga, a search operation was launched to find the driver after he was not found at the accident site. According to police, they had received information that the driver, Anil Pandit, 22, had absconded to Kavre.
A team from Okhaldhunga police had also come to Kathmandu to search for the absconding accused. After receiving information that he might be in Kavre, the team had searched the Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital in Banepa. Police arrested him after it was discovered that he had already come to Bhaktapur International Hospital from there.
The driver is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Pandit has sustained injuries to his hand, face and chest. Police have not yet questioned him about the incident.
The vehicle was travelling from Diktel in Khotang to Kathmandu, carrying a patient when it met with the accident. Police are currently conducting an investigation into this matter.
