POKHARA, April 6: The Kaski District Court has prepared a roaster of interpreters with a view to help foreigners and others with court procedures.

Some days ago, a French national was arrested on charge of drug trafficking. As he could not speak Nepali, the court procedures could not move smoothly due to language barrier. It took some time for the court to find an interpreter who could speak French and Nepali. Then only, the case procedure could move ahead at the court. But, from now on, there will be no delay in the case procedures specifically related to foreigners because the district court is now preparing a roaster of interpreter of different languages, according to the court's Registrar Krishna Prasad Nepal.

"Some of the service seekers cannot express their views openly just because of their language problem. In such condition, interpreters help those who cannot understand Nepali," Registrar Nepal said. "Whenever there is a need, the court will call the interpreter from its roaster."

Neupane informed that the court has maintained a roaster of interpreters as per the court guidelines for interpreters 2072. The facility of interpreter has been arranged for those individuals or witnesses who cannot communicate in Nepali.

Earlier, a month ago, the court had announced a call for interpreters of Gurung, Newari, Magar, English and other foreign languages, including Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Arabian and Russian.

However, the court has prepared a roaster of interpreters with English, French and Hindi languages only till date.

Lekhraj Regmi of Batulechaur has been selected for the interpreter of English, French and Hindi languages. He is also good in Urdu, Panjabi and Italian. Likewise, Chun Bahadur Rana of Pokhara has been selected for English while and Badrinath Acharya for English and Hindi languages, according to Registrar Nepal.

"Keeping interpreters will help those who cannot communicate in Nepali during the court procedures. This will facilitate everyone's right to access to justice," chair of district bar, Kaski chapter Som Bahadur Shrestha said.
