Petition seeks overturning Kaski district court bail order in Suryadarshan Cooperative scam

Government authorities have filed a petition at the Pokhara High Court requesting that seven individuals, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who were released on bail by the Kaski District Court in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case, be sent back to custody for trial.

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Government authorities have filed a petition at the Pokhara High Court requesting that seven individuals, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who were released on bail by the Kaski District Court in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case, be sent back to custody for trial.


According to a source at the high court, the Office of the Attorney General, Kaski, filed the petition on behalf of the government on Monday, seeking to overturn the Kaski District Court's bail order. The petition seeks court proceedings in the case with all seven individuals remaining in custody.


Earlier, on January 9, the Kaski District Court had ordered the release of the seven individuals, including Lamichhane, on bail. Lamichhane's bail was set at Rs 6.5 million, with varying amounts set for the others.

While six individuals were released on bail the same day, Lila Pachai was released the following day. The highest bail was set at Rs 8.8 million for former DIG Chhabilal Joshi.


Other bail amounts included Rs 3.7 million for Lila Pachai, Rs 1.5 million for former police officer Ram Bahadur Khanal, Rs 5 million for former MP Meena Gurung, Rs 1 million for Gurung's father Krishna Bahadur Gurung, and Rs 5 million for Aarti Gurung.


In addition to the Suryadarshan Cooperative case, Lamichhane has also been released in the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative fraud case after paying a bail amount of Rs 6 million. On Monday, the Kathmandu District Court set a bail of Rs 5 million for Joshi, who is also in the process of being released.


Meanwhile, another case has been registered against them in Rupandehi on charges related to Supreme Cooperative fraud.
