According to an army source, the army´s recruitment board is meeting on Tuesday to take final decisions on starting the integration process. [break]
"The process is to start after we are told by the government that the structure of the directorate [where the Maoist combatants will be accommodate after integration into the national army] will be determined simultaneously," the army source told Republica on condition of anonymity.
Though the army had initially planned to start integrating the 3,123 Maoist combatants from July 1, it did not do so as the government has not finalized the structure of the directorate.
Meanwhile, former commanders of the Maoist ex-army told Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Monday evening that they were ready for the process to start.
"We told them we are prepared for the process. We also told them that our friends [former combatants] are gathering in the main cantonments," said division commander Santa Kumar Darai.
The army plans to select rank and file combatants for integration at the main cantonments while the selections for officer-level posts will be held at Bharatpur barracks.
