The two incinerators at the crematorium have been burning around 22 dead bodies on a daily basis. The crematorium has managed to win favor among people in a very short period of its coming to operation because of low cost and less time it takes to cremate a body, according to PADT member-secretary Govinda Tandan.
While cremating a body using the electric cremation service costs Rs 3,000, the traditional way costs Rs 10,000.
Drona Pokhrel, a staffer at the timber corporation under the PADT, said that the use of firewood for cremation has been declining with the increased use of electric cremation service.
As per the PADT, a total of around 40 dead bodies are brought to the Pashupati Aryaghat for cremation every day, almost half of which are cremated at the crematorium, according to Ram Kumar Karki, who maintains the record of the bodies at the Electric Cremation Service.
With the trend of cremating bodies at the crematorium growing, PADT member-secretary Tandon informed that they were planning to add another incinerator to cope with the flow.
