Home Ministry forms a probe panel on Janaki Temple incident

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The Home Ministry on Monday formed a probe committee to investigate the Janaki Temple incident that took place during the visit of President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the occasion of Vivaha Panchami festival last week.

The four-member committee with Joint Secretary Binod KC as coordinator, has been given seven days to submit its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The other members of the probe committee are DIG Hemanta Bahadur Pal of Nepal Police, DIG Arbind Dhital of Armed Police Force (APF) and Investigation Director Yadu Lal Kharel.

According to the Home Spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, the team will visit the site on Tuesday.   

Cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front had waved black flags, attacked her motorcade and had also hurled a petrol bomb at the temple that she visited. Next day of her visit, the cadres had cleansed the temple premises stating that her entry into the temple was inauspicious because she is a widow.
