Hearing on footballers' 'match-fixing' case to continue on Tuesday

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The hearing of the five five footballers and a physiotherapist accused of match-fixing will continue on Tuesday too.

The Special Court on Monday could not continue hearing due to lack of time. However, the court recorded the statements of the footballers.The footballers charge-sheeted for match fixing were presented before the Special Court for testimony on Monday afternoon.

Five footballers—national team skipper Sagar Thapa, Sandeep Rai, Ritesh Thapa, Anjan KC and Bikash Singh Chhetri—were taken to the court at Babarmahal in the capital.

Kathmandu District Attorney's Office on Sunday registered a charge-sheet against the footballers and a physiotherapist Devij Thapa for treason, with a demand for life terms for alleged match-fixing in international and friendship matches.

Devij is suspected to be absconding in the USA.
