Speaking in Kathmandu Monday, Thapa said the two countries will discuss and try to reach agreements on bilateral trade, transit and investment.
"I hope that prime minister's visit to China would be a milestone in taking forward the bilateral relations to a new dimension," said DPM Thapa.
"Alongside, we expect that decisions would be taken on Chinese support for infrastructural development of Nepal," he added.
DPM Thapa informed that Prime Minister Oli is visiting China on the invitation of Chinese premier and will meet his counterpart on March 21. According to Thapa, PM Oli will also hold meetings with other Chinese officials before addressing a meeting at Renmin University and the Boao Forum for Asia on March 23. "During the Boao Forum, the prime minister will meet leaders from various countries and discuss bilateral as well as multilateral issues," said DPM Thapa.
Earlier, Prime Minister Oli on Sunday had briefed the standing committee of his party, UML, on the visit and said that he would give topmost priority to finalizing the bilateral transit and trade agreement that would be significant step in diversifying Nepal's trade, which is so far heavily dependent on India.
Likewise, he had informed that another priority is to reach an agreement with regard to import of fuel from China. Officials have announced to import a third of total fuel consumed in the country from China to break the existing total fuel dependency on India. The two sides have been discussing various proposals to establish storage facilities with three different sites -- Panchkhal in Kavre, Battar in Nuwakot and Khairenitar of Tanahun -- proposed for the purpose.
Nepal's priority would also be on upgrading the existing Tatopani border point that was destroyed by last year's earthquake and bringing Kimathanka border point at Sankhuwasabha and Korala point of Mustang district into use soon.
Similarly, the Nepali side has planned to seek China's support to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for extending China's rail services up to Kathmandu and Pokhara from Kerung.
Also, Nepal will also seek China's support for mega hydroelectric projects and build cross-border transmission lines.
