KATHMANDU, Jan 8:  Nepali Congress (NC) has appealed to its leaders and cadres not to be involved in the activities to be carried out in the name of convention or special general convention, individually called by the office-bearers or members, while terming such activities to be against the party statute.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the party central office has appealed to all ranks and files of party officials and members, including central working committee members, mahasamiti members, general convention representatives, associated and benevolent organizations, and office-bearers and members of Nepali Public Relations Committees abroad, not to engage in such activities.

The release came after supporters of the special convention of NC held a press conference on Wednesday, calling for a special general convention to be held in Kathmandu on January 11-12.

The faction has demanded that a special convention be held within three months, following a request submitted to the party's central office on October 15, signed by 54 percent of the convention representatives, for convening a special convention.

The NC central office clarified that the authority to call any level of convention or special convention does not lie with any individual party official or member but solely with the party's central working committee, according to the party's regulations.

The central working committee meeting held on December 1 unanimously agreed on the schedule for the 15th general convention.

The party has drawn attention to the fact that despite the schedule being prepared by the NC central working committee and the process and programme of the general convention underway, the justification for the special convention requested within the same period has ceased, the press release stated.

The release also mentions that for the upcoming House of Representatives elections on March 5, the party has already submitted candidates for the proportional representation category to the Election Commission, and the nomination papers for the National Assembly members have been registered, urging everyone to be even more actively engaged in the campaign to ensure the party's candidates win.
