KATHMANDU, June 21: Monsoon winds are currently affecting parts of Koshi Province, while westerly and local winds continue to influence the rest of the country, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
The division said cloudy conditions prevail across most hilly and mountainous regions, while the Tarai is experiencing partly cloudy weather. Light rainfall is occurring at a few locations in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces.
Heavy rainfall likely in some provinces today
During the day, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the hills and mountains, as well as the Tarai region of Koshi Province. Madhesh Province and the Tarai areas of Bagmati and Gandaki are likely to remain partly cloudy, while Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces are expected to see mostly fair weather.
The division has forecast moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi Province and at a few locations in the hills and mountains of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. One or two places in both the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi Province may receive heavy rainfall.
Heatwave conditions are likely at some locations in the Tarai districts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. Temperatures may also rise in parts of the Tarai region of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the hills and mountains of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the Tarai of Koshi Province. Partial cloud cover is likely in the mountainous and hilly areas of Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, while the Tarai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim are expected to remain mostly clear.
The division has forecast moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunder and lightning at some places in the hills and mountains of Koshi Province and at a few locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the Tarai of Koshi Province and at one or two locations in Madhesh Province. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in both the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi Province.
The division has urged the public in areas at risk of heavy rainfall, lightning and heatwaves to remain alert and follow regular weather updates.
