KATHMANDU, March 13: Consumer rights activists have urged the government to implement constitutional provisions related to consumer rights.

Issuing a statement on the eve of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD), Forum for Protection of Consumers' Rights (FPCR) said though the new constitution has guaranteed consumer right as people's fundamental rights, consumers are still suffering as constitutional provisions related to consumer rights have not come into implementation yet."The new constitution is consumer-friendly. However, consumers will not get any benefit unless and until provisions enshrined in the constitution are brought into implementation," Bishnu Prasad Timalsina, secretary of FPCR said.

World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is celebrated throughout the world on March 15 by organizing different programs.

Timalsina further informed that FPCR will continue to pile pressure on the government to implement provisions in the new constitution that safeguard consumer rights.

Officials of FPCR also said that different programs will be carried out throughout the country to discourage use of antibiotics. The theme for this year's World Consumer Rights Day is 'antibiotic resistance'.
