The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has informed that the buildings will have to compulsorily meet 25 percent of their total electricity needs through alternative sources.
Organizing a press meet on Tuesday, the ministry informed that private homes built on 10 annas of land in all the metropolitan and sub-metropolitan cities should also compulsorily implant solar systems. Likewise, all the buildings used for public purposes like school, hospitals and party palaces, among others, must install solar systems.
The ministry has informed that the decision was prompted by the escalating energy crisis in the country. “The national transmission line is insufficient to meet the increasing demand for electricity, forcing us to face prolonged power outage. So, we think the installation of solar systems can reduce the crisis significantly in the country,” said Purna Chandra Bhattrai, spokesperson of MoFALD.
According to him, the ministry has already directed 75 district development committees and 217 municipalities to effectively implement the decision. As per the new decision, all new buildings should compulsorily incorporate solar system installation in their design. Otherwise, the local authorities will not approve the building design.
