Govt announces Rs 10m for Olympic champion

KATHMANDU, Sept 27: The government has decided to award cash prize of Rs 10 million to Nepali players who win gold medal in the Olympic games. The cabinet meeting of the government on Thursday evening took the decision which was proposed by the National Sports Council.



The cabinet meeting also decided to award Rs 7.5 million to the silver medalist and Rs 5 million to the bronze medalist of the Olympics in individual events. [break]



The cash prizes for group events are Rs 4 million, Rs 3.5 million and Rs 2 million for gold, silver and bronze medalists respectively.



The winners of Asian Games will receive Rs 2.5 million, Rs 1.5 million and Rs 1 million for gold, silver and bronze respectively in individual events.



Similarly, the government has decided to award Rs 500,000, Rs 300,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively to the gold, silver and bronze medalists of South Asian Games in individual events.



Any athlete retiring after winning medals in three or more international events will receive Rs 2.5 million. Besides, the government has also decided to award the coaches and associations if the players win medals in international tournaments.
