Former British Gurkhas contribute Rs 7.2 million to school

MYAGDI, Oct 6: The former British Gurkha soldiers have contributed Rs 7.2 million to a school at Dana of Annapurna rural municipality in Myagdi district. 



The Pahar Fund established at the initiatives of the retired British Gurkha soldiers provided seven million 211 thousand 217 rupees to the Gyan Prakash Secondary School for construction of its classroom building.

Eighty-five percent of the construction works of the school building has been completed, school management committee president Bel Bahadur Purja said. The estimated cost of the building is Rs 9 million 721 thousand 304. The remaining cost is borne by the school itself. 


Classes of Grade 11 and 12 would be run from the new building, school principal Shanta Bahadur Nepali said. The school has 336 students. 


Friendly Brothers Dana Neighbourhood, U.K., an organization of the retired British Gurkha soldiers from Dana area and living in the U.K., had provided Rs 11.5 million to the education development fund of the school two years back. RSS
