“We will not conduct any classes from Friday until Dr KC´s demands are met,” said Dr Dinesh Bikram Pokharel, chairman of University Teachers´ Association at Maharajgunj Campus. [break]
Dr KC, who resumed his fast from 3 p.m., has also demanded stern action against IOM officials implicated in irregularities.

Dr KC had started a fast unto death on May 14 but ended it the same evening after Prime Minsiter Dr Baburam Bhattrai assured him of fulfilment his rightful demands. Under the direction of Prime Minister Bhattarai, TU had formed a search committee and gave it three weeks to select candidates based on merit, but it has failed to deliver.
Doctors and employees at IOM and TUTH have been launching serial protests since the past four months. The agitating doctors also stopped OPD services, extension hospital services and teaching at IOM, demanding immediate fulfilment of their rightful demands.
“We have requested Dr KC not to start his hunger strike but he is adamant,” University Teachers´ Association Maharajgunj Campus Chairman Pokharel said.
Asked if the doctors would again disrupt health services at TUTH, DR KC said, “Halting hospital services is not our choice. But noone in the hospital is in a mood to work. We are not certain what will be our next move; it depends on the reaction of the government.”
Six top positions at IoM, including that of dean, have remained vacant for the past eight months.
