KATHMANDU, Sept 15: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) is setting up citizen service centers in different parts of the country from September 17 in a bid to control anomalies in transportation sector during Dashain.

The department is setting up such centers in Satdobato, Gaushala, Jorpati, Sundhara, Tribhuvan International Airport, Kalanki, Balkhu, Gongabu Bus Park, Old Bus Park, Koteshwar and Swoyambhu to listen to complaints from service-seekers. [break]

The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneur´s (FNNTE) has already announced to open booking for bus tickets from September 17.

"We´ve decided to open citizen service centers in a dozen places across the Kathmandu Valley in order to encourage healthy business practices in transportation sector. The centers will also see whether or not transport entrepreneurs are charging exorbitant fares," Mukti KC, director of DoTM, said.

According to KC, the centers will have officials deputed by the department as well as security personnel.

Additionally, the DoTM has formed an eight-member team to monitor transportation sector. "The team started working from Sunday itself. It will inspect ticket counters and check posts to make sure that passengers are not cheated," KC told Republica.

Meanwhile, Dola Nath Khanal, general secretary of FNTTE, has said Dashain revelers will face problems this year as the government has started repair works on roads in different parts of the country. "The government made a mistake by starting repair works right ahead of festive season when vehicular traffic hits peak," Khanal added. "The government should have started repair works earlier."

He further said recent hike in the price of petroleum products will affect transport entrepreneurs severely. "We have been pressing the government to rollback the decision to raise fuel prices. If the government didn´t relent, we will have to raise transportation fare," he warned.

Khanal also said entrepreneurs will have to add more buses to meet the demand for tickets. "We will decide the number after studying bookings," Khanal said.
