KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The Constitutional Committee on Friday discussed provisions to be made in the new constitution to deal with issues during the transitional period.

A CC meeting, held in Singha Durbar this morning, dwelt on provisions for the transitional period until new arrangements are in place under the new constitution after general elections. [break]

The CC is, however, yet to make final decisions in this regard. The discussion will continue in the next CC meeting scheduled for December 25.

Today’s meeting was also supposed to discuss and subsequently approve the agreements on disputed issues of constitution writing, earlier forged by the dispute resolution sub committee.

The meeting could not make the endorsements as the top leaders of the major political parties including UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal were absent in the meeting.

As per schedule agreed earlier, all contentious issues of constitution writing except those related to state restructuring should be resolved by the end of this month.

In case the issues could not be sorted out within the set deadline, the Constituent Assembly will require  to settle them through voting.
